This man was determined to kill. He used a handgun. If he didnt have a hand gun because you were able to ban them, he would have used a shotgun. If you got to ban shot guns he would have used a bomb. Those can be made from things you cant ban.

This does not prove your point it proves the contrary. If the good guys were allowed to carry on base, the bad guy would have caused much less damage. You become a bad guy the second you choose to senselesly take a human life.

If guns are designed to kill and maim, they don't do a very good job at it. There are a few hundred million guns in the United States yet deaths attributed to firearms (all sorts of deaths including suicides, justifiable, self defense, murder, gang land, accidents, etc) are in the low tens of thousands. With all those guns designed to kill not many people comparatively are dying by guns. Automobiles on the other hand kill many more people a year and they are not even designed for that. Imagine that.

A gun is designed to throw a projectile out the barrel. That is all. The fact that that can kill or incapacitate does not mean all guns are used for or designed for that purpose. But when you need to throw that projectile out, for example, to defend yourself against someone trying to rape or kill you, you want something that does it well. S&W handguns do that well and are used by police all over the world as well as by citizens who want to defend themselves.

Anne, you miss the point. Cancer sucks. People supporting the fight against cancer are the good guys. Using a self defense firearm as the vehicle to raise money for that purpose is a good use for that firearm.

You say not an athlete, but a sportsman. Don't take my word for it. I believe if you thought that comment through it might have occured to you that there are shooting sports in both summer and winter olympics. The NCAA (National Collegiate ATHLETIC Association) sanctions shooting sports at the collegiate level and many high schools across the country have competitive shooting teams . I think that is a pretty authoritative body of work indicating individuals shooting a gun in a sport does indeed qualify them as athletes. Your arguments now are getting really pathetic.

There is an anonymous document circulating the web called Common Sense on Health Care. It takes on even greater significance given the GOP's new plan. http://commonsenseonhealthcare.blogspot.com/2009/10/common-sense.html
