"Who cares if the statistics are wrong."
Well, I care. I care because policy should be based on truthful discourse. The problem with incorrect statistics is not whether immigration laws should be enforced. The problem is that a politician has lied to try to trick people into supporting her position. If your argument is sound, people who agree with it will support it. But to not care when someone in power creates horror stories to justify her position is to give license to every politician to always lie all the time . . . so long as it advances a position YOU agree with.

Yes, everyone needs insurance. But most of the times we ignore it and realize the importance of insurance while facing trouble.

Joe, you are not completely right. As an Italian I could say that my country has got a better economy thanks to the euro! Without the euro we won't be able to compete with the dollar!

Likely got coverage elsewhere? Have you tried applying for coverage with a pre-existing condition lately? And got a job somewhere else? With the unemployment rate the way it is, I doubt that many of them were able to find another job. And even if they were lucky enough to get hired, I'm sure their compensation isn't the same as their former job. You have some of the most terrible logic I've seen in years. You seem to think that capitalism is the only way to do anything. The nature of capitalism is to take as much as possible with giving as little as possible. Do you really think that model applies that well to something like healthcare? Conservatives bitch about the amount of drug addicts out on the streets and the country's demand for drugs, but do you think these ppl can afford drug rehab? Locking addicts in jail won't do anything but drain the state's money and turn them into real criminals.

Sorry, Mr. Broder, you are ill-informed about how harmful junk mail can be. Junk mail is used to manipulate seniors, many of them have Alzheimer's and go through tens of thousands of dollars, giving money to "charities" & politicians which DMA does not restrict. Junk mail is not just a haven for scam artists, it is also a form of harassment, just like cyber bullying. Much of it is based on fear & paranoia (& we know Alzheimer's patients suffer from these) & much of it is hate mail, targeting religious minorities, gays, immigrants, etc. It is also mislabelled "official" when it isn't. This, I think, could be considered FRAUD. We should be given an "opt out" to stop these so-called charities & crooked politicians from bilking seniors. Instead, this stuff is forced on us & families have to find out & deal with it, often after seniors have already bankrupted themselves & their families.
