The quote comes from the EPA study you cited. The reports are qualitative; they report only the presence of the specified substances and not the actual concentrations of them. "The dose makes the poison." The simple presence of potentially toxic substances proves nothing. In short, the information given gives grounds for suspicion, but without quantitative results it is not appropriate to say either that the sludge is toxic or that it is not. You are guilty of conclusion-jumping.

Dear anonymous sewage sludge defender: I hesitate to reply to a single quote without context. And I won't speculate on your motives. But, I would urge you to read thoroughly *all* the [[Scientific Studies of Sewage Sludge]] in SourceWatch. Also worth reading is this study about cows dying and people getting sick after long-term sewage sludge exposure in Georgia: [http://www.lavidalocavore.org/showDiary.do?diaryId=3653] (Deaths, Milk Contamination by Jill Richardson)

"It is not appropriate to speculate on the significance of the results until a proper evaluation has been completed and reviewed."

This is flat out ridiculous that reporters are not allowed near the accident site. Doesn't the world have a right to get the facts and see pictures of the destruction that this disaster has done to our planet! It just goes to show... that when you have enough money - you are basically untouchable.

I am surprised that SourceWatch would even consider this as an important issue. Beginning to sound like the Tea Bag party and their cries of oppressive government (but only since Obama's election...LOL). It's 65 feet for heavens sake! If you have ever been at an accident scene or other "news worthy" event you know that this perimeter safty zone is absolutely necessry or else the reporters and their tech. support people would be all over the place, getting in the way by accident (to get a really good photo op) and endangering both the crews and themselves. The sound and image equipment is so good today that, from 65 feet the tech folks can hear a whisper and can photograph the wings of a fly. Get over it and focus on BP and the other corporations who are involved. JMJ
