I live in the UK and I feel that our military doesn't receive good praise like it deserves. There are so many brave men and women risking their lives to keep our countries safe - we should all be extremely greatful for what they do.

I am considering organising a PR day for a close friend of mine and some of his fellow troops when they next come home to visit. I'm going to treat the Navy boys and a few civvies to an Army Skills day out which I found on Gift Picker it looks like it should be fun!

I've already got a local newspaper interested in the story - so hopefully our fun day out with get a column.

Great blog by the way, I'll keep on reading.

What would help is if you who are concerned contacted [[Alice Waters]] and [[Francesca Vietor]] at the [[Chez Panisse Foundation]] and asked them to disassociate themselves from the [[SFPUC]]'s promotion of growing food in toxic sewage sludge, and the outrageous scam of pawning this dioxin-contaminated hazardous material off on local organic gardeners as "organic [[biosolids]] compost." Go ask Alice and her foundation to take a strong stand that is in accord with the National Organic Standards Act, opposing the growing of food in toxic sludge. Alice Waters claims to be a leader in these issues. She needs to prove it. And Francesca Vietor has a clear conflict of interest in wearing two hats, VP of the SFPUC, the agency conducting this scam, and head of the Chez Panisse Foundation, promoting organic schoolyard gardens. She has effectively married Alice Waters to the sludge promoters at City Hall.

Thanks for a great informative story. It's good to know that you're part of this group and will watch out for the best interests of the public while creating the basis for this new plan. Will continue to follow your progress and comprehensive information.

That's just the oil on the surface. Suppose the surface oil covered an area equal to that of West Virginia: what percentage of the volume of coal under that state would the underwater oil plumes amount to? :-)

How true. I have never known (until your article) how much oil was in a barrel vs a gallon. It's not that I don't care or don't want to know - it's just that I have never given it much thought. The networks do a good job of equating the spill to the size of states, for example. The latest was the spill now is as large as the state of Kansas - which is something most people can relate to when they see the graphic on the screen. No matter how it's measured, the devastating impact on the local business people is off the charts. That's a measurement we can all relate to - the dollar.
