"the Obama administration is wavering in the face of aggressive industry lobbying." THAT is the bigger issue, to me. It seems to me like government needs to be acting according to the will and best interests of the PEOPLE. Not of the lobbyists, of the massive corporations, and not of the people who can provide the most campaign funds. What can we do to refocus? Is there any way to do some sort of grassroots campaign to minimize the effects of lobbying in the government? Is that sort of thing even possible?

I wouldn't mind them having the same response plan, if it were actually effective. This isn't a new issue, I remember Florida PIRG 20 years ago campaigning against offshore oil drilling... why aren't there stricter laws to prevent this kind of thing from happening? We're poisoning everything that's supposed to sustain/nourish US. It's ridiculous.

I think the more pressing issue here is the fact that people are stupid enough to fall for stuff like this.

Potential students need to be cautious consumers and ask questions. Some years ago I signed up for and AS program for a Computer engineering assistant program. Before the first class started I contacted the guidance counciler and asked him what the rate of job placement for the program was. For the two years they had been running the program, out of around 175 graduates, two had secured jobs. And this was a college sanctioned program. Who does this serve? Certainly not people hoping to educate themselves in the hope of finding more gainful employment. A lot of colleges in this country are nothing more than a money making racket.

My country has banned public smoking recently. And I do find less people smoking now. But there is this increasing habit of chewing (Guthka), and that too is very dangerous leading oral cancer. Also this habit is visibly very dirty. All this big companies manufacturing it should be banned if Govt. is really serious about public health.
