Leaders of the Iraq Veterans Against the War are speaking at Yearly Kos Sunday morning, August 5, 9:30 a.m. at a Coffee with the Troops organized by the Center for Media and Democracy and moderated by CMD founder and Executive Director John Stauber. The event is open to the public and will be held in Regency Ball Room C/D on the 2nd level of the Hyatt. Garett Reppenhagen, Aaron Hughes, Josh Lansdale and Geoffrey Millard will speak and answer questions about the growing resistance to the war among active duty troops.
IVAW members believe that the war on Iraq is illegal and that soldiers have the right to refuse an illegal war.
Garett is IVAW National Chairman, Aaron is President of the Chicago chapter of IVAW, Josh is an IVAW member and the Illinois Coordinator for Iraq Summer, and Geoffrey is President of the District of Columbia IVAW chapter.
Iraq Veterans Against the War was founded in 2004 and advocates strongly for the "immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces in Iraq; reparations for the destruction and corporate pillaging of Iraq so that Iraqi people can control their own lives and future; and full benefits, adequate healthcare (including mental health), and other supports for returning servicemen and women." IVAW is growing steadily and today has twenty chapters across North America.
